Hello! I’m Melissa (which means honeybee!). I live in Massachusetts together with my husband, two children, three parrots, and lots of honey bees. I have started this blog in order to be a resource for others who are interested in top bar beekeeping or beekeeping in general.
My love of honey started only a few short years ago after meeting a woman who keeps bees and has honey that tastes like peaches. I had only had heavily processed honey when I was young and I thought that it was awful. Needless to say, I stayed away from honey well into adulthood—until that day when I was offered to try some honey by a beekeeper who grows lots of peaches and other wonderful things. I reluctantly took the honey and tasted it, my life was changed forever! Honey that tastes like peaches! I have now purchased many pounds of honey from this beekeeper and I am sure that I will continue to do so even after I am able to collect honey from my own bees.
Gardening has become a big part of my life and keeping bees fits very well into that. We live on about a tenth of an acre of land and I am working hard to utilize every inch of it. We have several fruit trees, berry bushes, and raised beds for strawberries and vegetables. When I am not tending to the garden or my kids, I am usually taking pictures of them!
